(By Correspondent Mao Maolin)Recently, the national finals of the short video track of the 2025 "FLTRP·ETIC Cup" "Understanding Contemporary China" National College Students' Foreign Language Proficiency Competition came to a successful conclusion. This year's competition attracted more than 17,700 entries from over 1,000 universities and colleges across the country. The short video Xin Huo · Xin Sheng (The Torch, Renewed Voices), created by Yin Ruhan, Mao Maolin and fellow students from the School of Foreign Languages of our university, stood out among the outstanding entries with its distinctive thematic vision, innovative narrative approach, and solid language competence, winning the National Silver Award.

The work was written by Teacher Tang Fang from the School of Foreign Languages, with Teacher Yan Ming serving as filming supervisor, and was jointly created by Yin Ruhan, Mao Maolin, and other students. Closely following the theme of the "Understanding Contemporary China" competition, the work takes "guarding memory in another language" as its creative core, deeply explores red cultural resources, skillfully integrates documentary and artistic expression, and vividly interprets the new generation's conscious commitment to carrying on the red legacy and their love for the country.

To ensure the work felt authentic and emotionally genuine, the creative team traveled to Yehe Village, Hong'an County, Huanggang City, Hubei Province during their spare time for field research and filming. The video adopts the perspective of a young person returning to their hometown to explore their cultural roots. Through delicate camera work and bilingual narration, it truthfully records what the protagonist sees and thinks on this red land, organically integrating General Li Tianhuan's revolutionary deeds with the cultural awareness of contemporary youth, and telling a Chinese story with warmth, depth, and strength through an international audiovisual language.

The video is accompanied throughout by accurate and fluent Chinese-English bilingual subtitles, which not only demonstrate the team members' strong foreign language application skills and cross-cultural communication competence, but also highlight the mission and responsibility of college students in the new era who are rooted in their homeland and oriented toward the world. Review experts noted that Xin Huo · Xin Sheng reflects grand themes through small entry points and connects history with the present through the voice of youth, making an active exploration in bringing red culture to life and sharing it with the world.

This award is not only full recognition of the hard work and innovative practice of the participating teachers and students, but also an important achievement of the university in deepening foreign language education reform and strengthening the cultivation of students' ability to "tell Chinese stories well."
In recent years, our university has continued to advance the approach of "promoting learning, teaching, and reform through competition," vigorously supported students in participating in high-level academic competitions, and continuously optimized the internationalized talent cultivation system. In the future, the School of Foreign Languages will continue to guide young students to deeply explore China's fine traditional culture and red culture resources, to spread China's voice in foreign languages, and to meet the call of the times with youthful dedication.
