(Author: Liu Weiying)On the afternoon of April 14, 2026, the English Teaching and Research Section held a faculty–student symposium in Room 119 of the Liberal Arts Building as part of the 13th “WIT Academic Week” series of events. The symposium aimed to strengthen communication between faculty and students and further enhance the quality of talent development.
The symposium was chaired by Wang Wei, Director of the English Teaching and Research Section. He Guanghui, a university teaching supervisor; Wang Guifen, a teaching supervisor of the School; Zhang Yunfeng, Chen Heng, and Liu Weiying, Deputy Directors of the English Teaching and Research Section; faculty representative Ge Jiamei; and student representatives from the 2022–2025 cohorts of the English major attended the event.
During the symposium, student representatives from different cohorts shared their experiences and offered constructive suggestions on a range of issues, including curriculum design, textbook selection, the organization of academic competitions, attendance management during Academic Week, and guidance on internships and employment. Faculty members listened carefully to the students’ comments and responded to their concerns one by one. The discussion was lively and constructive, creating an open and cordial atmosphere for communication.
Teaching supervisors He Guanghui and Wang Guifen spoke highly of the symposium. They noted that the event provided an effective platform for communication between faculty and students and reflected the educational philosophy of being “student-centered.” They encouraged the English Teaching and Research Section to systematically review the suggestions raised by students and translate reasonable proposals into concrete measures for improving teaching and learning.
In his concluding remarks, Wang Wei stated that the opinions and suggestions collected during the symposium provided valuable references for optimizing professional teaching and improving the talent development program. He emphasized that the English Teaching and Research Section would carefully examine students’ concerns, continue to advance educational and teaching reforms, and further enhance the quality of the English major. He also encouraged students to continue sharing their ideas in their daily studies, maintain active communication with faculty members, and work together to promote the high-quality development of the English major.
